AESTHETIC PLASTIC SURGERY

Rhinoplasty or nose surgery is used to decrease or increase the size of the nose, modify its shape, or improve some disorders of air obstruction in the nose.
WHAT CAN BE ACHIEVED WITH A RHINOPLASTY?
- Remove the hump or bony prominence on the back of the nose.
-
Decrease the width of the nose.
-
Decrease the length of the nose.
-
Improve the passage of air through the nose.
-
Improve the projection of the nasal tip.
-
Define the nasal tip.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR A RHINOPLASTY?
People who present dissatisfaction with the shape of the nose, either due to the size or shape of the nose, as well as alterations to the passage of air through the nose with nasal obstruction and nocturnal snoring, benefit from this surgery.

HOW IS THE SURGERY PERFORMED?
It is performed under general anesthesia; the vast majority of the surgical incisions are inside the nose and externally in the columella or structure that divides the two nostrils to do what is called open rhinoplasty, followed by internal anatomical support changes that involve bone and cartilage manipulation, in addition to the reconstruction of the support or nasal architecture, with the removal of the bone and tissue segments that limit the passage of air. For patients requiring changes in the nose’s width, incisions are made at the junction between the nose and the cheek, where the scars are masked.
As an alternative, other facial rejuvenation procedures, fat grafts for the grooves and improvement of the profile, such as chin surgeries, can be performed.

RECOVERY?
You will be discharged on the same day of the procedure. Most patients return to work five days after surgery; however, the edema and the bruises persist for several weeks, which gradually disappear.
POST-OPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS
- Sleep with your head elevated for the first few days to minimize swelling.
- Apply ice wrapped in a plastic bag and protected by a thin cloth for the first two days, every hour for 20 minutes.
- Avoid smoking for three months after surgery.
- Perform frequent saline nasal washing to avoid the accumulation of scabs and to breathe better.
- Avoid sun exposure directly.
- You should use sunscreen for the first few months after surgery to avoid spots on the skin and a dark scar.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS Q&A.
- Pain: Post-procedure pain is easily managed with prescription medications.
- Inflammation: Post-surgery inflammation decreases progressively after five days until the third or fourth month.
- Withdrawal of stitches: Between 5 and 7 days.
- Return to activities: After seven days, the patient can gradually return to daily activities.
- Exercise: Wait 3 to 4 weeks to perform physical exercise
RESULTS
The surgery aims to show off a more harmonious nose and face. When the inflammation subsides, you will notice progressive improvement, reaching definitive results after the sixth month of the intervention. In the first weeks, the most significant change will be evident. Still, as it is a tissue so sensitive to edema and colour changes, several months must wait to achieve complete resolution of the swelling.
